A lot of people get confused about this whole topic of ebooks and other digital product formats. They aren’t sure of how it will benefit them or how to make good use of them, so I wanted to clear up this topic if you are feeling unsure, and make good light of things.
What is an Ebook?
An Ebook is simply short for electronic book. Basically, it is a digital version of any normal book in the sense that you download it to your computer, open it, and enjoy its contents.
There are free ebooks that you can find in many directories, but there are also paid for information products in this format too. The format in specific is PDF, which in order to view you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader program which is free.
What are the benefits?
The bad news is that if you enjoy having a physical copy of a book in your hands then this isn’t the solution for that. One suggestion though is that you may easily print off most ebooks, make a 3 hole punch through the pages and put them in a nice binder to place on your shelf.
The biggest benefit of buying an ebook is that the transaction is simple and straight forward. In most cases, after you have made your purchase you will be directed to a page that has a nice download link where you can Right Click on the link >> choose Save As, and save it straight to your desktop.
Many people love this feature because you don’t have to pay shipping costs and you don’t have to wait around for days on end for your book to arrive in the mail.
Another benefit is that it makes sharing information so much easier. Your typical ebook is made by first writing the contents in Microsoft word, using nice formatting options and images and then exporting it to a PDF format, which there are some nice tools available that can do this for you.
This makes it nice for commerce if you have a great idea that you think will really help people out, but also takes a lot of the steps out of acquiring information for the person who will enjoy the finished result.
What other types of digital products are there?
Software is one that comes to mind. There are plenty of tools that can be programmed to help people out with everyday computer tasks that can make their lives easier.
There are also educational software programs such as foreign language tools that can make learning a new spoken language very easy.
Audio files are also very important. You can create audio lectures, lessons and even interviews and share them with people to download to their computer in MP3 format, which will work on almost any platform.
Video is also a great way to help people out, although web hosting costs and personalize video player platforms, as well as the hosting that goes with uploading these videos can be extremely expensive.
This is why one of the best ways to reach people with free information is on a video hosting site such as Daily Motion or YouTube.
If you think about it, there are two types of products even in the offline world. There are physical products that you use such as vacuum cleaners, televisions, gaming systems, car accessories, etc.
But there are also information products too like instructional DVDs, literature, CDs and home education courses such as online college materials.
I personally find that teaching people and expanding their minds makes for the best product, because this route can be so enlightening for both of us.
You know how difficult it can be to get someone to publish your book for you, or that the cost of making DVDs can get expensive. That is why the internet has given us a great gift.
I have two requests from here.
1. Please, if you have something to share, now you have a way to reach out to the world. Don’t be afraid to offer your knowledge and help people.
2. Please, although it is tempting, illegally downloading or sharing even Ebooks is not only immoral (because someone worked hard to develop something with you in mind), but it is also very illegal.
Many Ebooks and other digital products are copyrighted and you can get into serious trouble sharing them. Don’t think that the internet protects you from this and don’t assume that you are always anonymous.
